Vallejo's are here!

So my Vallejo's have arrived, well half of them anyways!

I now have the big paint set and the washes, the Extra Opaques and Inks are still to come. This means the weekend will have a day of painting and getting the dreadnought finished.

There will also be the Space Wolves to start and the NMM Grey Knights with fully custom base that they all slot into. Also it will be Eldar Avatar time, with warpstone colours it should really stand out from the crowd.

Asides from that there will be loads of green-stuffing and converting to get things right, but before I start any of that its Dreadnought only time.

Pics will be up as I paint and I will make sure to try and do more step by step, or if not pics at every break time!

Some of the work on the dreadnought

So here's some of the pics from the dreadnought - it is very WiP in these and the pics are a couple of weeks out, but there will be more this work weekend and with new Vallejo's coming soon to finish it!

These are from the basics I had in mind and then I changed and added a white shoulder as well as there was too much black, and I never thought I'd say that.

This has reminded me how much I hate painting white on black, so from now it's a case of no/white/light colours for the undercoat when I pick up figures to paint.

With Grey Knights and an Eldar Avatar coming when I get this finished and dropped off I am thinking about them too.

Grey Knights will be Non-Metallic Metal perhaps on a squad plinth base.

Eldar Avatar will not be the classic molten look that I see everywhere, I know its basically the lore colours but I want a more demonicy edge to it so I want to go with a green warp stone core with black stone over the top, and I want the green to be the light source so I can play with colours a lot more.

More pics this work weekend!

The essentials for starting again

So here are the basics before I even start to paint/sculpt.

That's Green Stuff, Brown Stuff, Sculpting tools and 2 Clay shapers.

Vallejo Paints (easily my number one choice and more out of shot), Liquid Green Stuff (heard only good things about it so far and really want to try it and play with layering), White Tile (essential old school painting aide), Brushes (sizes 1, 4/0 and 10/0 - there are other brushes but these will be the main ones I use)

The only other thing is a wet palette, and this is how to make one (cheap and easy!):

Step 1: Plastic tub

Step 2: Tissue paper (Kitchen roll is great)

Step 3: Wet the tissue paper, do not drown it though just make sure it has all absorbed some water

Step 4: Cut out greaseproof paper and place over the tissue paper

One wet palette completed. Make sure the container has a lid, airtight is good but if not its ok. Wet palettes will help keep the paint useable for longer and won't cause it to dry out on the tile/whatever you are using. It also helps with blending.

Now I need to get on with the first Mini, I have a Raven Guard Venerable Dreadnought (see body),the arms are both power claws like those below:

I have actually started it but will get a little more done before adding pics of it.
